Sebelius Overrules F.D.A. on Freer Sale of Plan B
I woke up to an email about Plan B from my Mom, Dr. Jeanne A. Conry, PhD, MD - President Elect of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Political sellout at it’s best….the scent of election year in the air!
Yes! SOME minors may be irresponsible with this product on drugstore shelves. But what about the girls who are incredibly responsible? Or the ones dealing with incest or rape or a support group that would not allow them access to the medication they seek.
Life isn’t a romantic comedy/drama like Juno. You bet your asses that if these girls can’t get Plan B, they sure as hell have limited access to other options for female contraception. Do we really want to count on a teenage boy to be the one to be responsible with avoiding pregnancy? Me thinks no.
How about empowering females to have a choice? Let’s make the pill available for those girls who wish to avoid the chance of pregnancy. If a girl is old enough to have sex, she should be old enough to protect herself from it’s consequences.
Or I have an idea! Men can have their Viagra covered and the government can subsidize the IUD Mirena for women.
I’m so happy to be living in Paris right now.
